TP Eaglesman, Desmond embarked on his first experience at the 22nd World Scout Jamboree in Sweden from 27 July to 7 August 2011, together with Singapore Contingent consisting of 36 Scouts, 7 ISTs and 4 Adult Leaders. As a Contingent Secretariat as well as Treasurer, his duties covered the administrative needs and support all logistical requirements. The Contingent's budget of more than a quarter-million requires careful administration and allocation to ensure accountability so as to ensure the well beings of every member were taken care. The experiences and participation in the WSJ2011, had been a life-changing experience for every member of the 22nd WSJ Singapore Contingent.

TP Eagles TAN GIM HONG who had been working in Taiwan since March this year, challenged himself to conquer Mount Jade (Yu Shan) at 3,952m above sea level on 26 August 2010. Being a veteran adventurer, he had scaled several Asian mountains such as Mount Ophir, Mount Kinabalu, Mount Gunung Tahan and many more during his Scouting days. Congratulations and keep up the Scouting adventure alive!

They are Group Scout Leader, MR ONG SHUN HUA (Chief Scout's Commendation), FTPPS Cub Scout Leader, MISS SAWIYAH BINTE MOHD SIDEK (Bronze Award) and Group Advisor, MR DESMOND FOO (Star to Bronze Award). The General Citation for the above Awards were given to Adult Leaders who have given meritorious service to the Scout Movement. TP Eagles Team Completed 1-Star Kayaking Proficiency on 18-19 Sep 2010.

TP Eagles youth leaders namely, Abdul Gader, Ahmad Arif, Aloysius Ng, Wong Wei Tao, Lin Naing and Joshua Cheng had successfully completed the One-Star Kayaking Skill Award on 18-19 September 2010 at PA Water Venture Changi Centre. The weekend 12-hour intensive course equipped our youth members with basic knowledge of river kayaking, water survival and sea rescue handling. The session drilled our youths in mental and physical strength, discipline and team-building through a series of scenario-based rescue exercises. Congratulations and well done. Keep it up to the next level.

TP Eagles & FTPPS Cubs Make A Symbolic Frontage in SSA Centenary Book.

TP Eagles and FTPPS Cubs created a symbolic presence in the frontage of our Centenary Celebration Souvenir Book. The 200 pages photo-book depicted the collection of our 100 years of Scouting activities and achievements. Some 10,000 copies had been published and will be available to our members at $12.00 per copy. Units who placed more than 20 copies at one order will get to pay only $10.00 per copy. The Centenary Book will be made available to popular book stores and libraries in the coming months. Individual member who wish to have a copy, may place order with your respective CSLs by 30 Sep 2010. The members who appeared in the front cover were Niki Alina (Sea Girl Scouts) Ma Wai Wai Tun, Reya Estrella and Christine Aquino. Ten (10) Scouts and Leaders from TP Eagles witnessed the Official Opening Of The Scout Discovery Centre on Saturday, 4 September 2010 at Scout HQ, as part of the Guard-Of-Honour contingent. The event was officiated by Minister for Community, Youth and Sports, DR VIVIAN BALAKRISHNAN accompanied by several Members of Parliament. Some 300 guests attended the event. The Scout Discovery Centre Main Gallery has been named as LO KA CHUNG Gallery for his monetary contribution of $100,000 to develop the Centre . In addition, some 40 individuals were awarded the Centennial Gold Medal for their past and present contribution to the development of the Scout Movement. The event was held in conjunction with our 100 years of Singapore Scouting.

More than 120 members from BPS, FTPPS and PCPS and their families participated in the Scout Rally 2010 held on Saturday, 22 May at Hwa Chong Institution. Attended by more than 6,000 Scouts from 140 schools and groups, the event was organised to celebrate 100 years of Singapore Scouting. The Guest-Of-Honor, DPM Teo Chee Hean graced the occasion and witnessed the challenge feat of 4,500 Scouts forming up the numeric 100 formation on the field and the launch of Reef-A-Deed knot that saw every scouts tying a reef knot at the end of their scrafs that signify their promise to do a good turn daily. The event saw some 36 game and food stalls put up by the Scouts from the District and an Inter-District Telematches that featured scout skills and family games. Performances by the HWI Lion Dance and Bugle Band spiced up the carnival-like event. The event was a significant to TP Eagles as our young Scouts and Leaders played a pivotal role in designing the entire Scout Rally programme. Led by Mr Desmond Foo who was the Head of the Program Team assisted by SL Ng Sir Kiat and ACSL Joshua Cheng, together with the Event host, DJ Boy Thunder from Radio FM91.3 who volunteered his Scouting time with FTPPS.

More than 5,000 Scouts from over 100 schools/and groups have registered to participate in the Centenary Scout Rally on Saturday 22 May 2010 at Hwa Chong Institution (HCI). Time from 1300hrs to 1800hrs.

The mega event will see 36 game stalls set up by the four Area, offering creative fun and skill knowledge for our fellow members. The event aims to bring family members and supporters together for a day of fun and interaction. Inter-district telematches will be staged to get Scouts to demonstrate their skills and team-work as they compete against one another. Units have a chance to express their journey of Scouting thoughts in celebration of our 100 years by designing colourful banners. Cubs will have their chance to "fancy-dress "up as characters in the Jungle Book series. Family bonding games will offer supporters Scouting fun. A first-ever 100km cycling round Singapore by our Rover Scouts will leave a historic moment in our Centenary celebration. The Reaffirmation Of The Scout Promise will feature 16 members across our sections of our Movement to live up to our Promise. A feat to conduct a mass sing along session together with 3,000 members will climate the event when our Guest-Of-Honour, DPM TEO CHEE HEAN launched the challenge for our members to formulate a numeric "100" human-formation on the field and staging the feat to REEF-A-DEED Knot by getting everyone to tie a reef-knot on their scarfs in 10 seconds with our GOH typing his knot before we waved our hands in the air to signify our Promise to continue the Adventure Of Scouting. The finale singing of the Scout Hymn will close the Scout Rally in a solemn "high note".

100 Cubs attended the first Archery Fun Shoot (Induction) Programme jointly organised by AAS and TP Eagles on Saturday, 20 March 2010

Despite the wet weather, one hundred (100) Cubs from Bendmeer, First Toa Payoh, Pei Chun and Woodlands Ring Primary School, scored their first opportunity to attend the Archery Fun Shoot Programme conducted by Archery Association Of Singapore (AAS) and Toa Payoh Eagles (Open) on Saturday, 20 March 2010 from 0900hrs to 1600hrs. The President of the Archery Association Of Singapore, Mr Tang Chang Poh gave an overview and enriching address to our young archers. Some 25 instructors and coaches together with the Youth Team participated and provide special coaching to our Cubs. The Youth Team wowed our Cubs with every perfect bull-eye shots with the youngest member at 10 years old. The Cubs were each given 4 Ends practices before embarking on an Inter-School fun competition to further judge their skills. Each Unit was represented by their best 10 archers. The teams fought closely based on the total points scored. Our brothers from Woodlands Ring who scored 214 points, emerged as the convincing winner followed by Bendemeer (199), First Toa Payoh (189) and Pei Chun (177). Win or lose - it doesn't matter ..as the Cubs had so much fun and most importantly, getting to know more friends. Do look out for the next shoot!

MORE than 9,000 students of the Singapore Scouts Association will fan out across the island from Saturday to raise funds for the association's annual Jobs Week. For a week, they will be knocking on doors of homes and companies to run errands in exchange for cash donations.

Some organisations which have agreed to pledge their support include the Ministry of Health, Singapore Turf Club and Chevron Singapore.

Jobs Week is the SSA's largest fund-raising event. Last year, it raised about $600,000. They hope to raise the same amount this year. The money will be used to pay for the association's activities such as camps and overseas trips.

On Tuesday, President S R Nathan, who is also the SSA's Chief Scout, met 15 scouts at the Istana who worked for an hour in the compound - sweeping floors, cleaning windows and polishing silverware. For their work, they were given a cheque of $2,000.

Mr Tan Cheng Kiong, the association's Chief Commissioner, said: 'We want to train and nurture our scouts to realise that there is dignity in labour, that honest work is a definite virtue.'

Fifteen (15) Scouts from RI 02 Scouts, TP Eagles Open and Catholic High rendered their Scouting service and show of support to our newly-established Thomson Colugo Open Scout Group, a community scout group based at Thomson CC. The Group is actively embarking its recruitment of the young and old, be it as a family or as friends, anyone and everyone can be part of this new Group. At the EP Day, our fellow Scouts helped to put up exhibits, man the booth, answer queries, took part in the EP telematch and performed on stage with the Group Ukulee Team. It was indeed a good experience for our Scouts who had gained much by getting to talk about Scouting and interacting with people of all ages. As part of District's support, 02 Raffles Scout and TP Eagles (Open) will continue to pledge our support to Colugo Open Scout Group and for possible collaboration in some upcoming activities. More than 100 Cubs and their parents attended the TP Eagles Combined Investiture Ceremony held on Saturday, 27 March 2010 hosted by Pei Chun Public School. Forty new Cubs were invested by the respective Unit Leaders as well as our Guest-Of-Honour, Mr Lee Lip Hong, School Principal of Pei Chun Public School. The District Commissioner (Toa Payoh), Mr Ong Shun Hua, in his speech, urged all Scouts to uphold their Scout Promise and Law in their growing up as a true Scout. Mr Lee, in his address, also stressed the importance of helping others and living up the Scout Law at all times. The Ceremony ended with a solemn reaffirmation of Scout Promise and the singing of the Scout Hymn.

The Dinner, the first of our Centenary Celebration, saw many old-Scouts, foreign Scout Chiefs and supporters rekindled their Scouting memories. The dinner saw a massive display of collectibles past and present at the outside of the ballroom. Forty-two (42) Eagle Cubs attended the 2010 First Aid Proficiency Training Session on Saturday, 30 Jan 2010 at Scout HQ. Through a follow-up series of practical session which covered field first-aid and CPR, thirty-five (35) successfully completed the Badge requirements. The training session was conducted and tested by qualified First Aiders.

FTPPS Eagle Cubs had the first opportunity to attend the Archery Program conducted by TP Eagles Archery Team. A total of 26 Cubs attended the first induction session on 13 Feb 2010 at FTPPS. The Group also earned the honour to have the President of Archery Assocoation Of Singapore, MR TANG CHANG POH to launch our first session. Our Cubs were given an introductory of Archery followed by a series of fun-shoot. Our newbies were equally excited and happy to have fun with Archery. Most of them who were interviewed, felt that joining the Eagles Group made them stand tall and proud of being a Scout in the school.

More than 80 Cubs and some 20 Adult Leaders/Scouts from the Eagles Cluster as well as Poi Ching Falcons took part in our 2nd Amazteering City Fun on Saturday, 6 Feb 2010 at Empress Place & Singapore River. 14 Patrols combed the Raflles Place, Fullerton Hotel, Boat Quay and Empress Place to look for 9 checkpoints that were related to the history of Singapore. The Cubs pitted against one another in speed, knowledge and teamwork through a series of games and clues. The top performing patrol went to the Bendemeer Eagles.

2nd First Aid Proficiency Badge Course For Cub Scouts - 30 Jan 2010

TP Eagles EXCO will be conducting the 2nd First Aid Proficiency Badge Course For Cub Scouts on Saturday, 30 Jan 2010 from 0900-1800hrs at Scout HQ (Programme Room).

The course aims to equip Cub Scouts with basic knowledge and skills as stipulated in the First Aid Proficiency Badge for Cub Scouts. Upon successful completion of its requirement, Cubs may be awarded the Proficiency Badge which is a mandatory requirement for those pursuing the Akela Award. The Course will be conducted by certified First Aid trainers. Theory and practical tests will be conducted /or observed by qualified trainers from SJAB or Red Cross. Participants must achieve a 80% pass rate for both theory and practical exams before being considered for certification.

Cubs who are interested, please check with your respective Unit Leaders.

Closing date: 23 Jan 2010. Limited to 40 pax.

With effect from 1 Nov 2009, Mr Tan Cheng Kiong (above) had been appointed as Chief Commissioner of the Singapore Scout Association by His Excellency, President Of The Republic Of Singapore, S R Nathan. Mr Tan Cheng Kiong, a lawyer by professsion, had been in Scouting for 35 years. He held several key appointments such as Deputy Chief Commissioner, International Commissioner and had also sat in the World Scout Committee and APR Committees etc.

He took over the duties from Mr Nicholas Tang who had completed two full-four years term as CC.

Bendemeer Eagles Go Cycling @ Pasir Ris Park on Saturday, 7 November 2009

Eleven Cubs led by CSLs Stephanie and Eunice went for a rambling experiences on Saturday, 7 November 2009 at Pasir Ris Park. A well-deserved retreat for the Cubs after an "eventful H1N1 encounters" when the School imposed stringent measures to cut back CCA activities, resulting in cut-back on the number of outings for the Scouts. The two-years old Cub Scout Unit will begin their quest for more adventurous activities when they resume "full steam" of synergy to organise more such activities in coming months.

Coming end of November, Bendemeer Eagles will shadow Sarimbun Scout Camp when they participate in the Central Area Camp scheduled from 28-30 Nov 2009.

FTPPS Eagles scored a victorious Scouting moments when Six Cubs received their Akela Award in style. Witnessed by School Principal, Ms Pearly Ng, together with their proud parents and leaders, the Akela Award Presentation Ceremony was held on Saturday, 24 October 2009 at Scout Association. Attended by some 300 guests including several School Principals and was graced by outgoing Chief Commissioner, Mr Nicholas Tang. To the FTPPS recipents, it was a special moment for our only Girl scout, Hien who had been earned the honour being the first Girl Scout in the District to receive the award. To the rest of the Akela Cubs, it will be their new begiinning to embark their Secondary School educaion and hopefully, to return to FTPPS as Scouts to serve and help out the younger Cubs. The Akela Cubs' achievements marked a good testimonial for TP Eagles Team for their dedication and committment to continually promote Scouting to the masses. TP Eagles Scouts To "Go Green" - "BLOGGING" their Scouting Experiences

From 2010, TP Eagles together with its related-Units will "go green". Paperless, hassle-free and easy communication will be new experiences for Scouting. Log book writing will be phased out and members are encouraged to go "blogging". Reporting their personal experience on our weekly activities, learning new skills, making friends, sharing of ideas and receiving meeting notices etc...will create a platform for more interaction and communication...This is a new Scouting journey as Singapore Scouting celebrates 100 years of Scouting in 2010..

As part of this "Blogging" project, every Cub will be given hands-on experience to create a Blog and learn to appreciate their experiences through group learning and interaction. Sixers will guide the younger ones to set-up and will ensure that their members make an effort to report their weekly meeting updates or activities.

Congratulation! To First Toa Payoh Eagle Cubs for clinching a Silver Medal at the National Cub Scout Challenge held on 15 August 2009 at Hwa Chong Institution. The Cubs competed several skill stations such as speed knotting, orienteering, gadget-making, campsite model-making, pioneering skills and etc. More than 600 Cubs from over 20 Units participated. The overall champion went to defending champion, Gongshang Primary School Cubs who won four Gold Medals..

Our Bendemeer Cubs had gained fruitful experiences from taking part in this event.

July 6 witnessed the closure of Camp Kawanee 1, a project initiated by TP Eagles and supported by the Eagles Connection consisting of 23 Eagles and Soaring Eagles Scout Group. The groups hosted 11 scouts from Western Australia led by Deputy Chief Commissioner WA scouts – Ms Sheridan Bunney and Branch Scout Commissioner – Mr Vern Casey. The scouts were given the opportunity to interact and participate in the many activities organized by all who were involved.

Day 1 Activities included an orienteering exercise organized by 23 Eagles, challenging the scouts to explore the nooks and crannies of Sarimbun Scout Camp in search of various clues that would lead them to the ultimate objective. International night was up next and together with a visiting Thailand air scout troop led by YUK, the scouts enjoyed a night of song, dance and merriment.

Waking up to a bright and sunny Sunday morning, the scouts embarked an a hike at Sungei Buloh Nature Reserve, led by Mr Kumanan and Mr Koh Kar Meng who gave the scouts much insight about the nature of mangrove swamps and its importance. The scouts also had the opportunity to tour an aeroponics farm and learn about the high-tech farming technique. After tasting a home-made brew of lettucino (lettuce juice), the scouts then proceeded back to camp for yet more fun filled activities organized specially for them. Activities in the afternoon were organized by Soaring Eagles and the scouts had a chance to play local traditional games such as Chapteh. The afternoon rain did not dampen the spirits of the scouts as they went all out playing Captain Fruit in the pouring rain, thoroughly enjoying themselves. Following that, the Australian scouts taught us the technique of dot painting and also the recipe for their very own brand of bread – The Damper. It was a night of games and laughter afterwards, as the scouts enjoyed themselves interacting and playing games with each other, while enjoying our Singaporean BBQ delights such as satay, chicken wings and otah.

It was time to bid farewell on monday morning as the scouts gathered to take their final photos and exchange contacts.With a final visit to the Kranji war memorial, the scouts bade a tearful goodbye, marking the end of the camp.

Over the next 4 days, Shun Hua and Desmond played the role of tour guides, bringing Australian scouts to many of our local attractions such as Lau Pa Sat, Sentosa, Chinatown, Singapore river, Newater plant, Changi Chapel musuem and even the Science centre, tasting local delights such as Roti Prata, Satay, Durian, Chicken rice and many more. The departure back to perth on 10 July marked the end of a wonderful and exciting programme.

Toa Payoh Eagles Organised 8th District Sixer Training Course 2009

The 8th Toa Payoh District STC was held on June 6 - 8 2009 at Pulau Ubin. STC 2009 saw the cream of the crop from various schools such as First Toa Payoh Primary, Maris Stella High School, Pei Chun Public and Poi Ching Primary converge on what is one of the most gruelling and tough sixer’s training course to date. The participants were mentally and physically challenged in the 3D2N camp in Pulau Ubin.

The main highlight of the course was the Navigation Exercise (NAVEX) which saw the sixers-to-be hiking in their sixes and engaging in various challenging activities at checkpoints located all around the island. The entire exercise lasted 2D1N during which the participants were expected to cook their own meals as well as build their own shelters to sleep in during the night. Needless to say, the participants were physically and mentally exhausted by the end of the exercise. Other than the exercise, the participants were also taught signaling as well as survival skills through fun-filled activities.

Random interviews with CSLs in particular, Mrs Liew (CSL from Poi Ching Falcons) who was accompanying her six Cubs and the first time they joined our District STC, quoted "This is one of the most difficult, challenging and gruelling course she had ever seen and it was a really a good exposure for her Cubs".

The course concluded with an educational discovery of Chek Jawa afterwhich the sixers bade farewell, gaining important skills over the last 3 days. They would go back to their units armed with these skills, allowing them to better lead their sixes in the future.

TP EAGLES TO HOST CAMP KAWANEE 1 (SINGAPORE) from 3-10 July 2009

TP Eagles earned the honour to host an inaugural visit by Scouts Of Western Australia from 3-10 July 2009. Eleven Scouts (Youth Leaders) will be led by Deputy Chief Commissioner, WA Scouts - Mrs Sheridan Bunney and Branch Scout Commissioner, Mr Vern Casey.

Together with brother Scouts from Beatty Beavers Scout Group and Raffles Institution 02 Scout Group, Camp Kawanee 1 (means Friendship in Malay) will be organised to connect the two countries' Scouts to further establish friendship and cultural exhanges. The 3 day Camp will be held from 4-6 July at Sarimbun Scout Camp. The highlights of the camp will offer sharing of views on Environmental Care and an opportunity to acquire Scouting knowledge and skills through group learning and living. The 3 groups will have the opportunity to organise a Campfire for the reunion of Scouts from our previous Perth programmes.

FTPPS Cubs Attended Gongshang Primary School Seeonee 6 Campfire on Saturday, 30 May.

Fifteen Cubs and Scouts from FTPPS/TP Eagles attended the Gongshang Primary School Seeonee 6 Campfire held on Saturday 30 May at their school located at Tampines Street 42. The Cubs, together with Gongshang Cubs and Soaring Eagles were entertained with a series of traditional scout songs and games. Cheers and voices overwhelmed the Cubs who were not dampered with rains before it began the Campfire. An improvised Campfire was held in the school hall, closely seated around the "fire", the Cubs felt a great sense of Scoutinghood when they welcomed some 20 new Cubs from Gongshang being invested in this special occasion by the School Principal. Gongshang Primary earned the honour of being the only Cub Scout Unit who is solely operated and managed by the Parents of the Cubs.

TP Eagles Team Attended the 2nd National Youth Symposium

More than 300 guests attended the Opening at the 2nd National Youth Symposium held from 30-31 May 2009 at Scout HQ. The event was organised once every five years and this year's event was officially graced by Guest-Of-Honour, Ms Denise Phua who is the MP for Jalan Besar GRC. The event saw teh various Scout Section putting displays and photo exhibits of their programmes. External agencies from NYAA, NParks, Tree-Climbing Society and Spring Singapore supported the event by setting information booths. The Symposium over two days, will have participants giving feedbacks to the Programme Council to enhance and fine-tune Scouting Youth programmes in the coming years. TP Eagles team namely Desmond, Gim Hong, Benjamin, Sir Kiat and Joshua attended the event.

Twenty-five (25) Cub Scouts from First Toa Payoh Eagles and Poi Ching Falcons participated in an inaugural "AMAZTEERING 2009", a new initiative by TP Eagles Team who created Map Reading Exercise with fun Amazing Race ideas. Divided into 5 Patrols of 5 Cubs each to cover 4km, each Patrol was given a map of Pulau Ubin in MGR. The map was plotted to include some 30 checkpoints already mounted by the TP Eagles Team a week ago. Patrols are required to locate the marked checkpoints on map as well as to apply MGR knowledge to locate some points in the shortest time to the Pit Point. Race Points were given and awarded on successful checkpoints and points were also allowed to be used to reduce the time taken, for the compilation of points.

The winning Patrol from Alpha on Route 1 scored first with all correct checkpoints and the shortest time attained in 1 hour 55 mins. The rest of the teams took more than two hours to complete.

Each patrol was guided and supported by one Adult Leader/Parent Volunteer and one Scout. A total of 8 Adult Leaders and 3 Scouts supported this Amazteering 2009 as part of the preparation for the Combined Eco-Adventure Exploration to Pahang which had been postponed to 1-5 December 2009. TP Eagles Combined Cub Scouts Eco-Adventure Exploration 2009 @ Pahang Malaysia

Forty-four (44) Cubs, Scouts and Leaders from First Toa Payoh Eagles, Pei Chun Eagles and Poi Ching Falcons will participate in the second series of Eco-Adventure Exploration 2009 to Gunung Senyum and Gelanggi at Pahang, Malaysia from 11-15 June 2009. An experienced team of 7 Adult Leaders and Scouts from TP Eagles (Open) will spearhead this expedition led by Mr Desmond Foo. Preparations for the trip started in March 2009 with the first selection hike at Southern Ridges on 5 April. A briefing for parents was conducted on 2 May 2009 at Scout HQ. The final warm-up training will be an intense hike of 10km with application of map reading skills will be conducted on 23 May 2009 at Pulau Ubin.

Despite uncertainty and concern in relation to the Swine-flu situation, parents had expressed support and understanding for the trip. As this Exploration is supported by SSA, we are ready to postpone the trip in the event of a travel ban imposed by MOH and MOE. However, the situation had been seemed to be milder than anticipated as reported by MOH and the Flu Alert Code had since been lowered to Yellow.

At this point of time, the Exploration Trip will still be ON with added precautionary measures such as strict personal hygiene and daily temperature taking will be enforced for each and everyone during the trip. Immediate isolation and medical evacuation will be the order of the trip for any participant who may develop fever, flu, have running nose or any potential sign of "not well".

In addition, the trip will provide each participant - personal issue of a long-sleeve T-shirt, a pair of cotton gloves, handbook that record their daily well-beings and a bottle of anti-bacterial hand-rub lotion.

Participants are advised to obtain the Personal Gear List from their respective Unit Leader for the items to bring for the trip.

Western Australia Scouts International Commissioner Visit Singapore - 8 May 2009

TP Eagles Adult Leaders namely Tan Gim Hong and Desmond Foo, had the honour to welcome and host Mr Jules Rikkers and his wife, Wayne for a Cruise stop-over in Singapore on Friday, 8 May 2009. Jules Rikkers is the current International Commissioner of Western Australia Scouts. Celebrating his 55th Birthday, he and his wife were on a 47 Glorious Days Cruise on board Sun Princess. The cruise started on 2 May from Perth for the journey to 16 ports and Singapore is the second port call.

Upon their arrival, Jules and his wife visited Singapore Scout Association and met up with Executive Director, DR Effendy. Thereafter, they went for a "spicy" lunch and tasted the famour "fish-head" curry at Samy's Curry located at Dempsey Road. A Visit to National Orchid Garden at Botanic Gardens offered a unique experience of our National flower. Driving through "ERP Orchard Road amused their curiosity of our shopping cultures. Riding up for 30mins on the World's largest Wheel, The Singapore Flyer offered them a 360 degree view of what Singapore has to offer. Finally, a visit to the heritage Raffles Hotel, a taste of Singapore's signature drink, The Singapore Sling and a "catch-up" meeting with our RI 02 Scouters namely Hoon Hoon, Lipin and Lit San sized up their 7 hours visit to Singapore.

2nd National Cub Scout Mind Quiz Competition 2009

Congratulations to our Eagles Cubs from First Toa Payoh who won the Bronze Award (Scoutlore Quest) and Silver (Static Display). Pei Chun Eagles won the Bronze Award (Scoutlore Quest) and Bendemeer Eagles, won the Bronze Award (Static Display) and a participation for Scoutlore Quest on Saturday, 2 May 2009 at Raffles Institution.

Some 30 Units participated in the bi-annual event organised by the National Cub Scout Roundtable and 02 Raffles Scout Group.

Central Akelaboree 2009 - Saturday, 25 April 2009 at Scout HQ

Twenty-Three (23) Adult Leaders from Toa Payoh & Ang Mo Kio District took part in the 3rd Series of what was used to titled as Bonding and Exchange (BE) session held on Saturday, 25 April 2009 at Scout HQ. This year, the session was renamed "Akelaboree 2009" to signify a Gathering of Leaders. The session kicked off with the Introduction by ARC Desmond Foo followed by an Address by ACC Lester Lee. His address connected more to the SSA's 100 years of celebrations in 2010. The DCs namely William Tan and KC Lai also presented their District past and upcoming events. KC Lai informed that there was a drop of Job Week's earning in his District probably due to the current global crisis. The first part of the session ended with a Q & A where leaders can raised issues that bother them. Mr Alex Choo who is Deputy National Programme Commissioner, also gave a brief outline of the forthcoming NYP Syposium which will be held from 30-31 May 2009.

Part Two of the session welcomes Guest Speaker, Mr K T Low, the Executive President of Asian Management Development Centre who gave an inspiring and exciting talk titled "The Think Hats Of Decision Making". The session aroused interactive and fun learning session.

The Akelaboree 2009 ended at 1700hrs with a sumptuous Buffet Dinner where the Leaders get to interact and know each other.

TP Eagles Leaders namely, Ms Eunice Lin (BPS), Ms Vicky (BPS), Ms Wiyah (FTPPS), Mr Tan Gim Hong (TPE), Mr Benjamin Lim (TPE) and Mr Ong Shun Hua (TPE) attended the session. Eagle Cubs Having "UP" fun at Disney-themed Meeting

FTPPS Cubs were surprised and amused with their weekly meeting. Themed as "UP", in relation with upcoming Disney Pixar's movie. Balloon sculpturing and games were conducted to spice up the "UP" effects. Cubs were asked to think creatively with gadgets that can fly...ideas from paper-plane, parachute, boomerang, rubber-band propeller, paper hot-air balloon etc..At the end of the day, the Cubs enjoyed the meeting mixed with fun, ideas, laughter, tears, fears etc..

Synopsis of Movie (at Theatre from 4 June 2009)

“UP” is a comedic adventure starring a 78-year old retired balloon salesman named Carl Fredricksen, who spent his entire life dreaming of exploring the globe and experiencing life to its fullest. He finally does so when he ties thousands of balloons to his house and flies away to the wilds of South America. However, by some twist of fate, he discovers an overly enthusiastic 8-year old "Wilderness Explorer" (Cub Scout) named Russell, who was stuck on his front porch. Eventually, the pair go on adventures into a lost world through which Carl’s outlook of life was changed.

TP Eagles Rover Participated Scouts Of The World Award - Discovery Workshop

TP Eagles Rover Scout, Benjamin Lim participated in the Scouts Of The World Award Discovery Workshop (4th Series) from 10-12 April 2009 at SSA.

The Scouts of the World Award Discovery Workshop started in 2006, the Singapore base has since successfully completed three Discovery workshops and a Voluntary Service project. Seven Rovers have thus far been awarded, and with that, Singapore became the second country in Asia-Pacific Region to present this international award.

The Scouts of the World Award is an initiative to provide young people with more opportunities to face the challenges of the future as identified by the Millennium Declaration unanimously adopted by the 189 member countries of the United Nations in 2000. It is open to both Scouts and non-Scouts.

SSA in partnership wirh Disney Pixar to promote new movie "UP"

SSA is partnering with Disney Pixar to promote their UPcoming new movie, UP. The movie opens in cinemas on 4 June 2009 and we are priviledged that the main character, Russell, is a Cub Scout. We have worked very closely with Disney Pixar to craft a 2-week programme which you can conduct with your Cubs over the course of the next few weeks before May, and upon completion of the second week's programme, you may submit entries to HQ in exchange for a limited edition Singapore Scouts - UP Badge. Each entry submitted by a registered Cub Scout will be eligible for one badge. More information will be provided next week.

In the meantime, please find the programme for the first week attached. Last day to conduct this programme is 18 April 2009. And the last day to conduct the second week programme (to be sent out next Tuesday) is 25 April 2009.

The theme for the attached programme was chosen specifically in response to Disney Pixar’s interest in partnering the Singapore Scout Association to promote the movie. The timing and method of carrying out the activities may be adapted to your own pack culture. Sixers are expected to run two parts of the programme we call “Over To You” in their respective Six, while Akela or Adult Volunteers run the main programme differentiated by level.

Week1: “UP, UP, AND AWAY!” (flying objects of every kind)

Akela are encouraged to start the programme by introducing the movie with the synopsis or by playing the trailer.

Synopsis of Movie

In the introduction by Akela, the Cubs are given a synopsis of the movie or the Trailer (downloadable from http://wdmpi.rd.llnwd.net/Up/TrailerC/English/Up_Int_TlrC_Low.wmv) is played. The Cubs are then encouraged to look UP for the adventure opening on Thursday 4 June 2009. He/she then links the theme to balloons (lower primary) and the theory of flight (upper primary).

National Cub Scout Programme Roundtable

Combined Eagles Exploration Hike at Southern Ridges, 4 April 2009

Sixty-five Cubs and fifteen Unit Leaders from Bendemeer Eagles, First Toa Payoh Eagles and Poi Ching Falcons participated in the Combined Exploration Hike from Hort Park to Mount Faber. Divided into 6 Patrols led by 2 Adult Leaders each, each Patrol was given 10 checkpoints and individual worksheet to cover the 4km route.

Starting from Hort Park, the Cubs were given worksheets to look for answers relating to Hort Park and Southern Ridges. After completing their first 3 finds, they were then allowed to began their 4km hike. Imagine the hive of activities and movements at the Hort Park, Cubs desperately needed to complete their first 3 leads, before embarking the hike. This was part of the plan to set apart or delay each patrol for the hike route. Along the way, they combed and look for designated checkpoint which had been planted by the Hike Leader, Mr Tan Gim Hong days before the hike.

The purpose of dividing the Cubs into Patrols helped us to manage their well beings and minimise "noise-pollutions" in the park. This was a request from NParks to offer a conducive quiet environment for park users. During the hike, the Cubs met and greeted members of the Scout Guild as well as our brother scouts from Gongshang Primary School who happened to organise their hike incidently starting from Marang Trail to Hort park.

The Hike ended at the end of Marang trail. Cubs then gathered for a sing-along session while checking of the checkpoints and collation of points were done by the Organising team. Three Patrols were awarded and recognised for their good teamwork, general understanding of park, good reading of maps and the the speed and identification of the checkpoints. The hike is part of two series planned in preparation for the coming Combined Eco-Adventure Trip To Pahang. The next hike will test the Cubs for endurance, fitness and outdoor survival at Pulau Ubin.

Some 40 Cubs will be selected to embark the 5D4N "gruelling but fun" Exploration to Gunung Senyum and Gellanggi from 11-15 June 2009.

FTPPS Eagles - Taste Of Archery Fun on 28 March 2009

First Toa Payoh Primary School Eagle Cub Scout Group had earned the honour of developing the first Cub Scout Archery Training Centre. With the support from the School Management, Toa Payoh District and TP Eagles (Open), Archery Programme for Cub Scouts were launched in 2008. Some 180 Cubs from 5 Units within the District had went through the programme.

Today, FTPPS Eagles together with its brother-Units namely Pei Chun Eagles and Bendemeer Eagles earned the exclusive learning of the art of Archery. The Group boasted 16 sets of Bow and four (4) Target Boards, worth a total of $5,000. The equipment were contributed by old boys from the TP Eagles Family.

With the requisition, the TP Eagle Scouts will be able to have regular Archery trainings at their weekly meetings and for the good ones, they will be trained to compete for the coming Pesta Sukan tournaments.

Combined Job Week Camp from 14-16 March @ FTPPS

Sixty-two (62) Cub Scouts from TP Eagles-led Units namely Bendemeer, First Toa Payoh and Pei Chun participated in the Annual Job Week Camp from 14-16 March at First Toa Payoh Primary School. A total of 16 Patrols headed by a Scout each, led the Cubs to the designated estates within Toa Payoh New Town. Each Patrol was given between 4-6 block of flats to work on between 0900hrs to 1600hrs. A 2-hour reporting by way of sms or phone call had to be made by the SIXER to the HQ Base Camp at FTPPS. The 24-hour Base Camp (the size of the classroom) was armed with several laptops, projection, charts, mobile phones and drinks for Unit Leaders operating the centre. A stand-by vehicle was stationed in the school and a roving vehicle was also on the road to be ready for immediate response to our Cubs.

The 3-day 2 night Camp offered the Cubs an opportunity to interact, share and discuss their Job Week experiences. After dinner, Unit Leaders were busy collating their respective Units returns and for the Cubs, it will be a good time for them to take stock of their hard-earned learning experiences. Daily breakfasts and dinners were centrally served for the Cubs.

TP Eagles Old Boys will be rewarding the Top Earners with Popular Book Vouchers to further encourage and motivate them to work harder for their own enrichment interests in Scouting.

On record, a total of 50 blocks of HDB Flats in Toa Payoh New Town from Lorong 3, 4, 5, 6. 7, 8 and Central had been "covered" by TP Eagles Cubs.

Senior Sixer, Ahmad Arif from First Toa Payoh Eagles, will remember this memorable visit to Istana on Tuesday, 10 March 2009 to meet his Excellency, President S R Nathan during the Launch of the Job Week 2009. Seven scouts from different sections under the Central Area are specially selected to do Jobs at the Istana. CSL Wiyah who accompanied Arif to the event, were equally excited and honoured to meet the President who is also the Chief Scout Of Singapore.

Keeping In Touch With Our Old Boys

TP Eagles is tracking down old boys of this old photo. This Sea Scouts Troop led by Desmond who was the Group Scout Leader of then Kingfisher Scout Group (Pei Dao) from 1985 to 1991. This troop supported the "growing up" development of Pei Chun Eagles and many of them are now in their mid-thirties. Out of the 27 members, we have tracked down and keep in touch with 10 of them through the wonders of Facebook.

Thirty new recruits were invested into TP-Eagles Scouting Family on Saturday, 7 March 2009 at First Toa Payoh Primary School. Witnessed by more than 120 other Eagle Cubs and Leaders from Bendemeer, First Toa Payoh and Pei Chun as well as their parents attended the ceremony. The School Principal of First Toa Payoh Primary School, Miss Pearly Ng was the Guest Of Honour. In her address, she thanked volunteers of the TP Eagles Scout Group for their continued support and guidance given to the three Units. Mr Christopher Ng, Central Area Community Development Commissioner graced the occasion.

For the first time, the three Units put up stalls to display photographs of their Unit's activities as well as their collection of scout souvenirs such as scrafs, badges, log-book and othe creative items produced by the Cubs. Parents had the opportunity to mingle and interact with the teachers and leaders of the 3-Units. One of the most memorable presence was the return of several Eagles Leader and old boys. To mention, Mr Tan Gim Hong, a former boy with Pei Chun Eagles whose son had joined the Group this year. His return as a trained Scout Leader will provide additional support and knowledge to the Group.

FTPPS Eagle Cubs Ready For More Actions

After an intensive 3-week First-Aid Course, FTPPS Eagles are ready to soar new heights after their graduation on 28 Feb 2009. The Environmental Awareness programme will take centre-stage after their Job Week Camp scheduled from 14-16 Mar. With the clustering of the 3-Units and the return of several seniors, the Eagles Family will certainly strive for more quality Scouting programmes such as kayaking, archery and environment-related learning activities.

Girls In Scouting are beginning to attract greater publicity and interest at First Toa Payoh Primary following its first recruitment in 2007. International student named Hien (seated centre) from Vietnam was the first girl to join the all-males troop when she started Singapore education at Primary 3. Faced with the challenges of rooting into our local cultures and learning our bilingual-speaking environment, she outwitted many of his peers and performed well at school and in Scouting. She adapted so well, taking up numerous adventure trips and participating in our regular international programmes. She had travelled to Perth and Japan for international exchanges. This year, she was appointed as SIXER in her 5-girls patrol, ready for leadership role as she pursues her route to Akela Award.

First-Aid Course For Cubs - CPR Hands-On Session

FTPPS Cubs completing their 3rd (final) First Aid Proficiency Badge Course on 21 Feb 2009 with hands-on practice on knowledge of cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on the use of a manneuquin. The Cubs had completed an intensive 10-hours First Aid Course over the past 3 weeks and will take the Badge test on Saturday, 28 Feb 09 conducted by a qualified First Aid Trainer from SJAB.

Dear fellow Scouts,

1 Today marks the 99^th year of Scouting in Singapore.

2 Scouting started in Singapore in 1910 and was introduced by a British, Frank Cooper Sands who came to Singapore to work. Since then, the organisation has grown in strength, with the present membership standing at almost 10,000. Many of our leaders including Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew and Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong were scouts during their school days.

3 Today, you stand among your school mates, proud to be an organisation comprising over 28 million boys and girls in over 216 countries and territories. As fellow scouts, we are united through our Promise and Law in this worldwide community. The strong foundation that you have built up over the years will have a positive long lasting influence in your life and put you in good stead to face the future well prepared.

4 Notwithstanding the importance of schools in providing academic education, they also serve the important objective in the transmission of values and life-long skills. True to the spirit of Scouting in building a better world., your active and constructive involvement in providing for your school and in a broader context to the less fortunate of community will foster a more caring and cohesive society.

5 How can you as scouts do your part to make the world a better place? Perhaps you could start by understanding and internalising the Scout Law and Promise. These are not mere words that you memorise in order to pass a test. Rather, they embody deep-seated values which will make you a better person when you live by them. The Scout Law and Promise have not changed much over the last 100 years and apply to 28 million scouts around the world.

6 I would like to take this opportunity to thank the principals, teachers and volunteers for your unstinting support in promoting Scouting as a CCA in your schools. Your good stewardship of our young will pay high dividends, in more ways than some realise. Let us continue to strive towards our vision of providing ‘Better Scouting for More Young People’ and developing them into self-reliant, supportive, responsible and committed persons.

First Aid Training For FTPPS Eagles

FTPPS Eagles started their first of the 3-part series First Aid Training Course on Saturday, 14 Feb 2009. More than 25 Cubs participated the session with VALs from TP Eagles providing the technical knowledge of first-aid training. Upon successful completion of the 3 sessions, the Cubs will have to take the Proficiency Badge Test that includes MCQ Paper, demonstrate the use of triangular and roller bandages, explain the I.C.E procedures, basic knowledge on CPR, presentation of personal first-aid kit and perform an emergency preparedness situation as directed by the examiner.

Scout HQ Administrative Briefing cum Long Service Award 2009

More than 200 Adult Leaders gathered for the Annual Administrative Briefing conducted by Scout HQ on Saturday, 31 Jan 2009. The event was kicked off with an opening address by Chief Commissioner, Mr Nicholas Tang who he expressed concerns about getting our VALs to become "salesman" to promote Scouting. He quoted the success stories aboout people who had been part of Scouting in recent newspaper reports and encoraged participants to do more to promote Scouting. An introduction of key personnels from the Commissioners' Council and HQ staff were done. The session provided information about the new Annual Registration Exercise on the use of enhanced MSDS online system, the forthcoming events such as the Job Week, Donation Draw, 2010 Centenary Events and Corporate Goverance by Mr Malcolm Tan (a former District Judge).

At the end of the session, there was the Long Service Award presentation to recognise 40 scouters who had contributed much time to Scouting. Notably from Central Area, Miss Chan Hoon Hoon from RI02 who received her 10 years Long Service Medal. The event ended with a sumptuous buffet lunch where fellow scouters took had the opportunity to interact and network.

FTPPS Scout Recruitment 2009 - Attracts 28 Wannabes

Twenty-eight (28) young wannabes signed up to join the FTPPS Eagles Family during their annual CCA recruitment drive on Tuesday, 20 Jan 2009 at the school hall. Backed by an impressive display of camping equipment, tent, archery equipment, past event photographs and slide-shows, the FTPPS Cubs dressed in their badges-infested scout uniform, made their presence felt and promote Scouting agressively by showcasing their marketing skills. Wow..what an impressive showcase within 2 hours! Keep up the good work, FTPPS Eagles...

TP Eagles to conduct First Aid Proficiency Badge Course from 14 Feb 2009

TP Eagles will conduct the First Aid Proficiency Badge Course, in accordance with the requirements of Cub Scout Proficiency Badge test and in addition to Red Cross Junior First Aid syllabus. The 3-session course will begin on 14 Feb (Sat), 21 Feb (Sat) and the exams on 28 Feb (Sat). Time from 0900hrs to 1200hrs. The examination day will be presided by a First Aid Trainer certified by SJAB. Units who are encouraged to send their Cubs who had completed their Bronze Arrow for the course. The course fee will be $5.00 per head which will cover training notes. Closing date on 7 Feb 2009. Please email your name list to Benjamin Lim. Payments will be done on the first day of course in cash.

FTPPS Eagles to receive Sky-Blue Unit Colour

FTPPS Eagle Cub Scout Pack established on 16 July 2002 under the able leadership of Miss Sawiyah Binte Mohd Sidek and Mrs Goh-Pearly Tan, had been standing tall among the established Units in Singapore. Under the flagship of TP Eagles, the Unit had enjoyed quality programmes, in particular - its Archery and International Scouting programmes. The Unit had participated its annual International Exchanges such as 20th World Scout Jamboree in Thailand (2002), Goodwill Exchange (Bangkok 2003), 5th Malacca Jamboree (2004), Taman Negara (2005), 3rd Camporee in Perth Australia (2007) and 4th Goodwill Japan Camporee in 2008.

The FTPPS Cubs success attributed to the return of old boys who had been groomed over the years to be future leaders of the troop and the strong support given by the school management.

Bendemeer Eagles to have Orange-based Unit Colour

Newly established Bendemeer Eagles started in 2008 will be part of the Eagles family from 2009. Led by CSLs Eunice Lin and Stephanie Ng, with its current 22 members, the Unit pledged to recruit more members and to participate more enriching activities and to better their annual fund raising efforts. 2008 had been an exciting year for BPS Scouts as they participated numerous activities to familiar and level their footing with other Units. BPS hopes to achieve its first Frank Cooper Sands Award and hopefully its first Akela Scout at the end of 2009.

TP Eagles 2009 Focus - Launch Of Environmental-Related Programmes

On 10 Jan 2009, TP Eagles EXCO conducted its 2009 Work Plan Session together with its key VALs and CSLs from various Eagle Units at Scout HQ. The members reviewed 2008 programmes and were satisfied of the Archery Programme for Cubs and the numerous activities organised by the Group.

As of 2009, Bendmeer Primary will be adopted by the TP Eagles and the Unit will be named as Bendemeer Eagles. The adoption is to synergise its resources and manpower to achieve standardised training and shared its resources and training grounds.

2009 will see the Eagles participating activities relating to the World Scout Environmental Programs, seeking collaboration with Government agencies and Units to increase the awareness of environmental issues around our living conditions at home, school and natures.

TP Eagles Family will consist of TP Eagles Open, Bendemeer Primary Eagles, First Toa Payoh Primary Eagles and Pei Chun Eagles.

TP Eagles Team Supports Chongfu Cubs Perth Trip

TP Eagles VALs namely Desmond & Benjamin, embarked a six day camping programme with Cubs from Chongfu Primary School from 27 Nov to 3 Dec at Perth, Western Australia. The overseas programme, a first for Chongfu Cubs as well as their Brownies and St John, signified a new beginning for the school UGs for more such trips, With the support from our Western Australia Scouts, the programme consisted of outdoor camping in the wild, flying fox in the darkness, confidence courses, tunneling, rock-wall climbing, visit to wildlife park, educational tours to Fremantle Prison and star-glazing at Perth Observatory. It was indeed a fruitful and memorable experiences for the Cubs as well as for the TP Eagles team as we learned and enriched more about Perth for future programmes.

TP Eagle Cubs Participated in the 4th Cubs Camporee in Japan

Nine Cubs and three Leaders from FTPPS & Pei Chun, participated in the 4th Cubs Camporee in Japan from 25 Nov to 6 Dec. Together with other Units, the Singapore Contingent consisted of 120 Cubs and 30 Adult Leaders. The programmes would take them to different parts of Japan where they will embark cultural exchanges with Japanese Cubs and also visit to places of interests such as Universal Studio, Disneyland and etc.. Ex-Pei Chun Cub & HWI Venture Scout - Wong Kang Yan became TP Eagle's 2nd President's Scout.

Ex-Pei Chun Cub Scout, Wong Kang Yan became the 2nd President's Scout Recipent in our 33 years of Eagles Scouting. Kang Yan began his Scouting with the Pei Chun Eagles in 1999 and attained his District Commissioner's Award (Akela) in 2002. He continued his scouting path with Hwa Chong Institution (HWI) from 2003 to 2006 when he achieved his Chief Commissioners' Award. In 2007, Kang Yan won the Scout Association's Most Outstanding Scout Of The Year Award. In July 2008, he was selected to represent Singapore Scouts for the World Scout Youth Forum held in Korea. On 20 November 2008 at the Istana, Kang Yan received the most prestigious President's Scout Award 2008 presented by our President and Chief Scout, His Excellency SR Nathan. Witnessed by his proud parents, aspiring scout leaders and good sponsoring authority, Kang Yan will now stand tall as a honourable member of the Association Of Top/Achiever Scouts (ATAS) in the World Scout/APR community. His achievement further solidified our TP Eagle's belief in providing a good platform for Leadership and quality Scouting programmes as reflected in our motto - "Follower Today, Leader Tomorrow". TP Eagles Gathering @ Scout HQ Dinner

The Scouting year 2008 ended with a high note for TP Eagles Team when we rekindled and reflected our contribution and memories with an appreciation dinner on Saturday, 8 November at Scout HQ. This dinner themed as Wild Wild West was organised by the 5 Areas headed by South East. More than 250 volunteers attended the dinner, dressed in cowboy and cowgirl outfits to mingle, interact and most importantly, to have fun. On this note, we congratulate our Units in particular, FTPPS and BPS for a great year of Scouting.

Akela Award & Public Health Badge Presentation Ceremony 2008

Muhd Syukri Bin Rahmat from First Toa Payoh Eagles became the 2nd Malay Cub in the Unit to receive the Akela Award (Merits). Of 88 recipents, only 21 of them will receive the Merit Level based on their leadership, project management and their active participation in District and National events.

TP Eagles Woodcrafts Funboree 2008

For the first time, TP Eagles initiated a new project titled as Woodcrafts Funboree led by the CSLs from BPS and FTPPS. Some 30 Cubs from 4 Units had the opportunity to have their skills tested by making pioneering models and woggle-painting. Cubs were tested on their creativity to decorate their personal woggles. At the end of the seesion, Cubs can keep their own creation and learn more about Pioneering models.

First Toa Payoh Primary hosted the inaugural Toa Payoh District Cub Scout Archery Competition

Thirty-seven Cubs (37) from 4 Units participated in the inaugural Toa Payoh District Cub Scout Archery Competition held on Saturday, 9 November 2008 at First Toa Payoh Primary School. Muhd Kahiree from FTPPS won the Gold Individual (12m) and the Team Event - FTPPS Team 1 won the Bronze Team. The Champion Trophy Gold to Maris Stella High and the Bronze went to First Toa Payoh Primary School. The event was graced by Area Commissioner, Mr Lester Lee who gave away the prizes to the winners. In his speech, he hoped that the event will gradually be organized at an annual affair and reaching out to benefit as many scouts as possible. He thanked the strong support from TP Eagles Leadership Corp led by Mr Choo Hao Xin and Mr Benjamin Lim and also to Toa Payoh District District Team for a job well done.

TP Eagle Cubs Hosted Aussie Cubs on Saturday, 25 October 2008

TP Eagle Cubs from First Toa Payoh and Bendemeer had a wonderful fun meeting with our visiting Aussie Cubs on Saturday, 25 October 2008 at Raffles Institution. RI02 Scouts organised the meeting with activities such as ice-breaker games, orienteering exercise, singalong session and a visit to our Scout HQ. Our brother scouts from Pelican, Henry Park joined us in the meeting. The Aussie Scouts from Morley Scout Group, Perth, WA who were in Singapore from 18-27 October 2008.

Spearheaded by Scouter Lit San of RI, the group will see a reunion of our friendship since we visited Perth last year. Orienteering, games and singalong session will be the highlights of the joint meeting. This programme is part of TP Eagles continued engagement with International Scouting.

Senior Sixer, Mohd Syukri Bin Rahmat, who won the best Camper at the District Archery Camp in June, is a step-away from being awarded his hard-earned Akela Award for the year 2008. He had demonstrated his unfailing leadership abilities and responsibilities at his Unit level and had participated numerous events at District and National Level. For his active attendance and "never-say-die attitude" he was animously nominated by his CSLs and most importantly, the trainers from TP Eagles. We wish him good luck for his interview on 23 Oct and his project presentation on 8 Nov at HWI. *FN: Mohd Syukri will be the 6th Akela Award Receipent for FTPPS and earn the honour of being the second Malay Cub in the school for the prestigious award.

It's New It's For YOU - Woodcrafts Funboree

Calling all Cubs! Join us for a fun-filled theme event called Woodcrafts Funboree on Saturday, 8 November 2008 at First Toa Payoh Primary School. The event is held in conjunction wth the District Archery Competition for Cubs who are NOT taking part in the competition. The fees payable is $6.00 per head inclusive of lunch and drink. In addition, participant will get to receive their own creation for Woggle Painting. Attractive prizes will be given to the best creations. The closing date for registration has been extended to 25 October 2008. See you there for a day of FUNboree!

Toa Payoh District Cub Scout Archery Competition 2008

TP Eagles will spearhead the organisation of the inaugural Toa Payoh District Cub Scout Archery Competition on Saturday, 8 November 2008 at First Toa Payoh Primary School. A total of 7 teams and 20 individuals from various Units had registered for the first-ever Archery Comeptition. Since early this year, more than 140 Cubs had undergone at least 80 hours of Archery handling techniques and shooting skills through regular sessional training as well as a 3D2N Archery Camp. Over the years, TP Eagles pride itself as the breeding ground for providing quality and enriching Scouting programmes. Do make a date with us for an enriching Archery outing!

TP Eagles Team Supports Cub Scout Challenge 2008

More than 700 Cubs from 27 School Units participated in this year's National Cub Scout Challenge 2008 on Saturday, 20 Sep at Catholic High School. Ventures from Catholic High and HWI were involved in the organisation of the event as part of their PSA-pursuit projects. The Eagles family was represented by Pei Chun Eagles who did well in events like the Street Soccer and Captain's Ball. The overall Champion (Gold) went to Manta Ray Scouts from Yishun Primary, Silver to Gongshang Primary and bronze to Chongfu Primary. TP Eagles Rovers led by Desmond provided critical support and deployment as Marshals and Judges for the event. Rovers namely, Ng Sir Kiat, Chua Shi Wei, Benjamin Lim and Scout Liew Kong Wai. The Challenge has been graded as one of the biggest Scouting event conducted this year. As for our FTPPS and Bendemeer Cubs, both Units are unable to participate due to Muslim fasting.

Toa Payoh District Cub Scout Archery Competition on 8 November 2008

The inaugural District Archery Competition For Cub Scouts, the first-ever in Singapore Scouting will be held on Saturday, 8 November 2008 at First Toa Payoh Primary School. A total of 40 Cubs from seven Units are expected to participate. Cubs who had undergone Archery training and attended the District Archery Camp in June, will take this Competition to show-off their handling and shooting skills. The event are expected to attract members of the scouting fraternity as it highlights the possible introduction of Archery Programme for scouts in the years to come. The Archery Programme was introduced by TP Eagles (Open) in 2003 for their members on a self-funded sponsorship from old boys. Since then, the Group had equipped high-end Archery equipment that can set up a 8-lane shooting range. Some 145 Cub Scouts had went through such programmes this year.

Central Area Scoutlore Quest 2008

More than 50 Scouts attended the Area Scoutlore Quest held on Saturday, 30 August 2008 at Raffles Institution. The event themed as "W!ld Scouting" saw Scout Units competing one another on quizzes and static display depicting the theme objectives. RI 01 won the overall Champion with Gold awarded to RI 02 and Beatty Beavers. The event saw several Central Area Commissioners namely ACC Lester Lee, DC(TP) K C Lai, Mr Desmond Foo and Mr Christopher Ng gracing the event. In addition, ACSL Benjamin Lim also helped out in the event. Mr Koh Kar Meng from Bishan Park was the host. The Scoutlore Quest was indeed a splendid experiences for many scouts who went home with new knowledge and skills relating to Scouting. Kudos to the organising team headed by DL Kumanan and his team of helpers.

Beatty Beavers Celebrate 55th Years Of Scouting

More than 400 Scouts attended Beattuy Beavers 55th Anniversary Campfire on Saturday, 16 August 2008 at its school. The campfire was declared opened by District Commissioner (Toa Payoh), Mr K C Lai. The campfire also see many old boys of Beavers returning to rekindle their scouting memories. The new leadership led by AGSL Kumanan who was also the District Leader (Scouts) reaffirmed his committment to continue the brotherhood Scouting in Beavers. Over the past years, Beavers and TP Eagles had close relationship. TP Eagles Group Advisor and former GSL, Mr Edwin Lye was an old boy of Beaver, however he continued his Scouting Leadership with TP Eagles since 1996. He nows head the Singapore Teacher's Union as Secretary General. He was a very active Unionst with NTUC. We also have many of our former Eagle Cubs continued scouting with Beavers after their Cub Scouting days. On behalf of TP Eagles - we wish our Beavers brothers - a Happy 55th Birthday and hope for many good years of Scouting. Cheers Beavers...!

SSA Annual General Meeting on 16 August 2008

More than 100 Adult Leaders attended the SSA Annual General Meeting on Saturday, 16 August 2008 at Scout HQ. The AGM was called to order by SSA President at 3.10pm. TP Eagles GSL Ong Shun Hua and Desmond Foo as well as new leaders from Bendemeer namely Eunice and Stephanie also represented District as voting members in the AGM. SSA President, Mr Noel Hon, Vice-President, Mr Robert Koh and Elected Member, SK Lai had been elected for another 3 years term. In his address, Chief Commissioner, Mr Nicholas Tang reminded members of the changes needed for Scouting to move forward. He informed that by the end of next year, he will step down as the Chief and would hope to have the new CC to be at the next AGM. The AGM ended at 4.40pm.
